Oddly encroaching local social network
Who’s Near Me Live Review
by on May 1, 2012
It’s hard to properly review a budding social network, as the success of any such thing will really depend on those that use it.
WNM is a slightly odd take on the same old thing we’re used to time and again, basically fusing Twitter and Facebook, allowing you to follow anyone but comment on a post they make.
You can search by mutual interest, or simply who is nearby – making it a very easy thing to get a little bit too close to somebody if they’re quite open with their information.
Push settings make it easy to keep up to date when someone posts a comment on something you’ve said, or people you’ve clicked to ‘watch’ (again, eerie) do something.
Unsurprisingly, it’s seemingly full of teenage girls and slightly predatory looking older gents (plus a smattering of ‘normals’) and it makes having a conversation a little tricky – although if you’re into random conversations with randoms, it’s great for that, plus you can use internet calling over 3G or Wi-Fi too.
Not our favourite app – and we’re deleting our account as soon as we can, but popular with some, so at least take a look if you’re into a social network ‘scene’.
