Rough around the edges news
BBC News Mobile Review
by on March 10, 2012
If you’re a connoisseur of the daily news grind, you’ll know it never sleeps. Never falters. It relentlessly keeps on coming, smashing you in the face until you decide to wipe out humanity to stop all the constant updates.
But if you’re not at that stage yet, you’ll probably want to keep up with what’s going on, and this free app is pretty good for that.
Firstly, you can set up dedicated feeds to only stay up to date with the categories you really are bothered about – although we couldn’t find all the options offered on the main BBC site.
The breaking news stories will also appear in both push notifications and on the Live Tile as well if you keep that option set up – not a bad way to keep you interacting with the applications. It’s annoying you can’t customise these to another feed that isn’t just breaking news though.
The navigation is pretty clunky as well, with all the sections defaulting back to the old order every time the app is opened – if we’ve set up feeds, we want to see those first please.
Not a bad way to digest news on the go, and pretty speedy too – plus options to jump out to the mobile navigation. A bit of work tarting things up with more customisation and this would be a winner.
