BBC content on your home screen
This is less of an app, more a widget for your Samsung phone’s home screen, but it does have more functionality than just being a web link.
As well as providing large links to optimised versions of the BBC homepage and BBC Sport homepage, you can also click through the arrows on the widget to whizz through the headlines.
Tapping a particular headline then opens your phone’s browser and goes to the story in question. The optimised homepages include an update button and the ability to browse through the various categories of the BBC News website.
There are also advanced settings, such as the ability to auto scroll and choosing how often the widget updates. That’s because, as a widget, it is constantly open on your Samsung phone’s homescreen.
You can choose not to auto-update should you be restricted in terms of data. While not as expansive as, say, the existing BBC News app for the iPhone, this Samsung widget certainly does 80 per cent of the job and serves a very useful purpose.
