The Mirror’s app is one of the only major newspapers to so far release an app on the Ovi Store and while it purports to be a “trusted news source,” it’s far more adept for celeb news and sports transfer gossip. It’s a worthwhile download though, not least because it offers something a bit different than many of the straight news apps you can find on the platform.
It’s certainly colourful, but on the screen of our N97 Mini some of the text was woefully small on the main screen and then, to our shock, we found the same thing in the stories themselves. It’s one thing to make your app suit many different screens but quite another when it’s almost unreadable. You can zoom in on the text, of course, but this is totally clunky and it doesn’t even match up with the width of the screen in landscape mode. What’s more, to get out of this mode is a real problem and we actually only managed to quit the app by mistake! It’s a real shame as Mirror Mobile promises much. It just needs better execution.
