Make sure your local taxi firm isn't ripping you off
by on January 19, 2011
Suruk is an app that can prevent you from being ripped off. How? It can track your taxi journey and let you know if what you’re being charged is correct in terms of the taxi fares for the area. In other words, has your taxi’s meter been tampered with?
Unfortunately the only available preset taxi fares are for taxis in India, where this app originates. But you can easily add fare information for wherever you like – you can usually find local authority taxi rates from the web. Annoyingly, your rates will be displayed as rupees, but that doesn’t make the amount wrong.
The app is also intended so that you can find out the past conduct of the driver from other Suruk users, but this doesn’t seem practical in the UK. Should you wish, you can also sign up to log and track your trips from the web – and that could be more useful, especially if you regularly take taxis for business travel and need to track their use. Despite its orientation toward Indian taxis, there are still several aspects of Suruk that are useful for the UK.
