Fring is a complete voice and IM app for your Nokia
by editor on March 15, 2010
A complete IM app for Nokia handsets, Fring enables you to make free calls as well as send instant messages.
Its boon is that it works with numerous networks including Skype, Google Talk, MSN Messenger and Yahoo! Messenger.
But it has more tricks up its sleeve than that, also plugging into Twitter, Last.fm, Facebook and any SIP voice accounts you may have for VoIP services. It works by gathering together all your account details and having a single friends list from which you can contact people. The latest version for Symbian added the ability to make voice calls over Wi-Fi and 3G connections plus the integration with Skype and Google Talk.
Like the Skype app itself, there’s full support for both voice calls and instant messaging. There’s also a full history, so you can check back on any calls or chats you made or had. At the time of writing only support for the Nokia N80 and N80i had been fully signed off by Nokia, so if you install it on another handset you’ll likely get a warning telling you that you continue at your own risk – you might see some interface issues because of this.
