Satnav applications on mobile phones have developed at an incredible rate, with the latest from CoPilot turning your iPhone into a fully-featured PND.
CoPilot Live is by far the best value turn-by-turn satellite navigation app on the iPhone. As well as being £33 cheaper than its main rival, the TomTom iPhone app, the developers also ensure that it is regularly updated with the latest, most useful features to ensure that you get where you want to go with as little fuss as possible.
The app lets you use your phone’s multitouch screen to move your destination map around and also does the basic job of making sure you don’t get lost, whether or not you are driving in built-up urban areas or out in the wilds of the countryside.
If you don’t have a dedicated personal navigation device, or if you have a first-gen TomTom and want to upgrade to something with loads more useful features, such as live traffic updates and full iPod functionality (so you can play and control your trip’s music from within the app) then this is a must-buy app for iPhone users.
Perhaps the only potential downside of CoPilot on iPhone is the fact that it saps your phone’s battery, so it would be wise to invest in an extra car charger and a dashboard cradle, if you don’t have one already.
