Great for sharing fun moments with friends, but it feels like the app isn’t quite finished yet

Disposable Hipstamatic Review

by on February 17, 2012

Sharing is key when using Disposable Hipstamatic, an app that allows you to create ‘cameras’ between friends. You can all snap away until its virtual roll of 24 shots is full, but here’s the kicker: you can only view the photos once every one has been shot.

Just like the older Hipstamatic, Disposable is trying to emulate the good old film days, with vintage camera effects characterising each shot. Unfortunately, it also requires In-App Purchases to unlock its full potential. Some of these, controversially, only work for a limited number of times, meaning you’ll need to cough up again when they ‘run out’. However, the app itself is free, and with three cameras included, we think that’s reasonably generous.

It’s frustrating that all those In-App Purchases you made in the original Hipstamatic can’t be brought across to Disposable. However, using the app is easy, and waiting to finish a roll is nostalgic – if a little tedious.

Absurdly challenging, sometimes brutal, but frequently brilliant (especially on the iPad); just be aware of what you’re letting yourself in for. (Sob.)
