ESPN Goals Review
by on September 2, 2011
Suppose someone told you it was possible, legally, to watch highlights from English Premier League football matches without having to wait for Match of the Day or have a Sky Sports subscription? You’d probably laugh in their faces, right? Well ESPN is about about to make a lot of people look mighty foolish with its new app.
ESPN Goals brings you a live match centre for each Premiership game, with line-ups and text commentary, as well as video highlights, which are usually delayed by around 10 minutes. At the end of the game, these highlights are compiled into a single video roundup of the game, which remains available for 36 hours. The one caveat is that video for games kicking off at 3pm on Saturdays can’t be shown until around 5.15pm – but that’s still long before Match of the Day.
And once the individual match highlights are removed, an all-game roundup remains for the rest of the week.
While the quality’s not brilliant, it’s adequate for the small screen, and means it works over 3G as well as Wi-Fi. An absolute must-have for any football fan.
