The Ocado app lets you do your weekly shop from the comfort of your couch via the iPhone.
by on March 17, 2010
Ocado is the online supermarket division of Waitrose and its shopping app really is exemplary. It is actually easier and more pleasurable to do your shopping via the iPhone app than to do it via Ocado’s website, which speaks volumes for the quality of the app’s design and user interface.
Once you have set up an online account with Ocado, which is pretty quick and painless, you can also set up a 4-digit pin number for accessing the app on your iPhone, which saves you having to put in a username and password every time you shop.
The first time you sign up the app will download the store’s entire 22MB product catalogue, so it helps to be in a Wi-Fi zone for this initial set-up. After that, you can add to your shopping list wherever you are, whether you are connected via Wi-Fi or 3G or not.
The online store has well over 15,000 items organised into categories such as toiletries, food, pet care and so on. It is very easy to find what you need in seconds. Or if you are an idle browser, it’s just as easy to spend some time wandering around the virtual store. Much as you would do in a bricks-and-mortar supermarket, only without the arguing couples and irate till operators to spoil your reverie!
