The BBC News app for iPhone has been a long time coming, with competing commercial news organisations having tried to stall or stop the launch of the app, claiming that it hampers competition. Or something.
Thankfully, the powers-that-be at the Beeb ignored all of that nonsense and finally green-lit the superb free BBC News app for iPhone and iPad.
The design and layout of the app is clean and simple and thumbnail-picture heavy, so it is very easy to learn how to use and navigate the app, which basically repurposes all of the BBC’s news content into something that is a little more edible on the iPhone than attempting to navigate Aunty’s website via your phone’s Safari browser.
The coolest feature, by a country mile, is the fact that you can also opt to watch a live stream of BBC News on your iPhone, providing of course that you are within reach of a decent 3G signal or Wi-Fi.
Users can also use the app’s customisation options to select which types of news they wish to view using the BBC News app. You can also email links or post to Facebook or Twitter in an instant. Easily amongst the best free news apps for the iPhone.
