Sega brings our favourite speed-freak blue hedgehog back to the iPhone in the form of Sonic 4, a must-buy title for fans of the classic series.
Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 is a direct sequel to Sonic and Knuckles. And this title does everything you need to take you straight back to the glory days of 16-bit gaming from back in the day.
The game features 4 Zones, each consisting of 4 Acts. Additionally, this new iPhone edition of Sonic 4 includes two exclusive levels that you won’t find in console versions of the game. So it is certainly one for the sonic purists.
The game mixes up some superb 2D and 3D platforming, with each level being an almost perfect gaming snack to be enjoyed in short bursts, wherever you are – whether you happen to be on the go or on the toilet.
Sonic can use his Homing Attack to defeat enemies, with a number of levels also making use of the iPhone’s tilt control, which does take a little bit of getting used to. Still, once you’ve cracked it, you will wonder why Sega didn’t implement this in earlier versions of the game.
A Sega belter. Buy it.
