Here’s a game starring a heroic stick fellow called Pants Man, who has to save his sister, Cutie Pants, from a band of disco-loving pirates. It was only ever going to either be brilliantly daft or embarrassingly silly. Fortunately, it’s the former. Fancy Pants Adventures brings what was a hit series of online flash games together on iOS and, surprisingly, proves to be rather less casual and throwaway than you might expect.

Its main strength comes from the fluidity of the main character’s movement. Possibly taking inspiration from Sonic’s kinetic gameplay, Pants Man can run left and right and jump at speed, all the while sliding under stuff, bouncing off walls, running around loops and performing flying attacks on enemies, all in one flowing sequence.

By its nature, this set-up means the levels have to be large (very large in some cases), and while it’s true to say some of the more complex locations are a bit confusing, for the most part, everything is designed with immense skill – providing tempting glimpses of areas you need to get to, but setting up plenty of challenges to prevent you reaching them.

Add in a healthy amount of amusing situations and dialogue, and the ability to unlock loads of fun new items to wear, and you have a charming and fast-paced yet challenging platforming experience – not in the least bit pants.
