Packs all the Cave punch you’d expect, but really needs to be prettier and cheaper
We like the Japanese version of witches. If Cave is to be believed, then your Japanese coven appears to consist entirely of cute teenage girls, which would make for an interesting production of Macbeth if nothing else.
In Deathsmiles – an exciting twist on the usual Cave bullet-hell shooter in that it scrolls horizontally instead of vertically – they take their occult skills to the skies and blast everything that moves into oblivion. It’s a decent enough shooter that, as expected, features a special iOS mode with collectible (and buyable) upgrades, alongside the Arcade mode, and it mixes things up by attacking you both fore and aft with switchable directions of fire.
Come on, though: where are the Retina graphics? If we’re paying eight quid for this – a small fortune by iOS standards – then we expect it to look nice.
