5One of the greatest casual games on the iPhone to date

Physics can actually be fun. This is what we are learning from some of the greatest casual games to hit the iPhone in the last year. Angry Birds and Cat Physics are perhaps the two that immediately jump to mind.
iPhone gamers can now add Chillingo’s sublime Cut The Rope to that list of mobile casual classics. As with those other titles, the goal and objective in the game could not be simpler. You are charged with feeding the greedy beast Om Nom, a funny-looking little monster who lives in one of four separate boxes - Cardboard, Fabric, Foil, and Gift – which represent the four worlds in the game.
A piece of candy dangles from varying lengths of rope tantalisingly above the hungry Om Nom. Cut the rope correctly and the monster gets fed, and you get to move onto the next level. It might not sound that amazing when described in those terms, but the game has that essential ‘one-more-go-ability’ that just keeps you hooked on feeding the little fella.
Additionally, you can also collect up to three stars on each level – ‘I’m a Celebrity’ style – which you need in order to unlock the next world. The risk-reward decisions are what makes the game truly stand out from the morass of sub-standard casual games competing for your money on the iTunes App Store. A must buy.

The iOS equivalent of a plain cheese sandwich: does the job, but it won't linger in the memory afterwards.

pxl.
The interface feels a bit out of place on iOS, but it’s a fun app, and produces interesting results.
Puzzlejuice
Absurdly challenging, sometimes brutal, but frequently brilliant (especially on the iPad); just be aware of what you’re letting yourself in for. (Sob.)
