Farmville meets Dawn of the Dead in this slow-paced management sim
Zombie Cafe Review
by on February 22, 2011
The setup runs thus: you are the proprietor of some dingy caff which is down on its luck. Your business plan: infect customers with zombie disease and set them to work as mindless, table-waiting drones. As you make more money off of your morbid menu of dishes (mostly thinly disguised dished up human remains) you can buy more tables, infect more would-be staff and attack nearby competeing restaurants and eat their human staff and customers.
But don’t mistake this for a casual, five-minutes-to-pass-between-tube-stops kind of game – Zombie Cafe demands commitment. Preparing dishes to serve to your customers can take hours – not in-game hours, but actual hours of your life slowly scored away while your chef labours over stewing human remains. “Green Eggs and Sam” takes eight of them. That’s a third of a day.
The game doesn’t expect you to be playing this whole time, but rather is always on, ticking away in the background. This is a bit of a surprise the second time you boot up the game to find your pot of homeless person soup has spoiled. Like the Facebook games (Farmville et al.) which clearly inspire it, Zombie Cafe wants you checking in several times per day to manage it – job and personal life be damned.
It’s pretty harmless, cartoon humour, and if you’re in the segment of the venn diagram where “likes The Sims” meets “likes zombies”, then Zombie Cafe is the game you never knew you were waiting for.
If you’re after more casual zombie fun, however, go with Plants vs. Zombies or Pirates vs Ninjas vs Zombies vs Pandas
