Jetpack Joyride
T3 Rating
4An absurdly addictive runner that stops just short of soaring its way to perfection

Jetpack Joyride is dangerous. We first picked it up one night before bed, and we nearly didn’t sleep. Sure, at its core, it’s a run-until-you-die-horribly game along the lines of Canabalt, but it’s hardly run of the mill. In essence, it’s a giant carrot-on-a-stick simulator – but, you know, with jetpacks. There’s always a reward right around the corner. You have constant objectives, which include everything from ‘high-five 10 scientists’ to ‘slide 100m on your face’. Also, coins – which can be used to purchase cosmetic upgrades and minor boosts – are scattered about liberally, as if Mario recently exploded.
That’s to say nothing of forward motion, which feels fantastic whether you’re jetpacking between traps or piloting one of the many vehicles, including a giant robo-dragon called Mr Cuddles. As a whole, it’s absurdly compulsive. On the downside, some objectives can be tedious, and the game wears out its welcome fairly quickly. In-App Purchases, meanwhile, tempt but never tarnish, since coins can be earned fairly quickly.

Ragdoll Blaster 3
The iOS equivalent of a plain cheese sandwich: does the job, but it won't linger in the memory afterwards.

pxl.
The interface feels a bit out of place on iOS, but it’s a fun app, and produces interesting results.
Puzzlejuice
Absurdly challenging, sometimes brutal, but frequently brilliant (especially on the iPad); just be aware of what you’re letting yourself in for. (Sob.)
