Don't use as your only defence against things you can\'t eat, but it's a great first line.
Can I Eat It? UK Review
by on August 26, 2011
Being allergic to things (or just fussy) can make food shopping arduous if you’re having to check every ingredients list to make sure you can eat something. Can I Eat It? UK, which works on iPhone 4 and 3GS, snaps a picture of a product’s barcode, looks it up in its online database and compares the ingredients to your dislikes/can’t-eats. You’re instantly told if you’re safe to tuck in.
We were impressed by the size of the database, which contains a lot of big-name and supermarket-brand goods, though more obscure stuff isn’t in there yet. It’s growing all the time, though. The list of preferences you can set is extensive and includes obvious things like gluten and nut allergies, plus lifestyle-based things such as Fairtrade and organic. Don’t use this app as your only check, but it sped up our big weekly shop.
