The Songkick web service has been running for over four years and regularly boasts over 100,000 concert listings at a time, but this is its debut into the mobile market. And what a debut it is. Open the app and it scans your iPod music library.
Using your location, it delivers up-to-date listings of local gigs by any of your favourite bands. This being Songkick, you also get listings of all other concerts in your area, each one serving as a portal to order tickets, share your discovery and get further location details.
There’s no obligation to sign up to the Songkick service, but doing so enables you to track newly discovered artists within the app and mark gig dates in its calendar.
