The film fanatic's best friend. Providing you're an Odeon loyalist
by on February 22, 2011
No doubt, a cinema app is a no-brainer for any iPhone-touting cinephile, and the Odeon app is as solid a choice as one could hope to find.
Once launched, tapping the “Cinemas” tab at the bottom of the screen brings up a list of your nearest Odeon cinemas – the default setting is to find cinemas within five miles, but this can be changed to an A-Z search should you be wandering further a field. The selected cinemas can then be overlayed onto Google Maps, encircling you with a ring of red pins marking your nearest Odeons, as you’d expect.
The Films tab shows the whole selection of what’s showing at Odeons across the country, and tapping the picture next to the film listing launches its trailer. From the listing you can also bring up details like the cast list and running time, and book tickets. Once you’ve found cinemas and films to your liking, you can add them to the “My Odeon” tab, which stores all the films you’d like to see in the future for quicker looking up of booking times.
In short, then, the Odeon app does exactly what you’d expect exactly as well as you’d expect it to. The only question we’d ask is, given the existence of movie booking apps (Showtimes, for instance) that cover all cinemas and not just one chain, whether or not we love Odeon enough to use an app that limits us to their cinemas alone.
