Event Check-in
T3 Rating
4Slick looks and flawless operation, but the price limits its audience to enterprise users
Event Check-in Review
by on February 3, 2012
Events often feature befuddled greeters trying desperately to find names on lists hanging off tattered clipboards. Fine for a school play, but not the Oscars. The Event Check-In system solves that, but it’s definitely priced for the Oscars rather than the school play.
Event Check-In is as sophisticated and robust a solution as you could possibly imagine, and the app is only one part of it. The whole system manages check-ins and synchronises multiple iPads in real time, and can send a message to the event manager when VIPs arrive. You can manually check people in, or use a barcode scanner – it will generate QR codes for printing on the tickets. Unexpected guests are easily added from the iPad, too.
The system is managed with a simple-to-use online account. You can upload your guest list or import it from other systems, such as Eventbrite. You can also upload your branded backgrounds for the app; this is as much about looking professional as actively being professional.
Enterprise event managers won’t find it expensive, but sadly it’s not practical for small gigs or school functions.

Ragdoll Blaster 3
The iOS equivalent of a plain cheese sandwich: does the job, but it won't linger in the memory afterwards.

One for those with a careless bent, and perfect for when you want to play a game but not do any thinking.

Pulse: Volume One
Stylish, absorbing and challenging, but needs Game Center support and an injection of longevity and jolly.

The interface feels a bit out of place on iOS, but it’s a fun app, and produces interesting results.
Puzzlejuice
Absurdly challenging, sometimes brutal, but frequently brilliant (especially on the iPad); just be aware of what you’re letting yourself in for. (Sob.)
