A challenging game, which shines out among a crowded sea of similar line-drawing titles.
The Lighthouse HD offers a twist on the line-drawing formula, by turning navigation into a spotlight-based affair. Instead of drawing a line and waiting for your vessel to follow, you control it by holding your finger over its bow (casting the spotlight directly in front), and dragging it in the direction you want it to go.
The game is less frantic than Flight Control or Harbor Master, but then it’s a different experience, hinging gameplay on specific level objectives and power ups, rather than how many objects you can deal with on screen at once. Here, there are unique obstacles that threaten your ships’ journeys, from a ravaging giant squid and devastating whirlpools, to treacherous coastlines and rolling sea fog.
There’s more longevity here than in similar titles and The Lighthouse HD leads the fleet when it comes to atmospheric gameplay, too.
