5A full-featured and immensely enjoyable golf game

You can love or loathe the real sport of golf, but few people can resist the lure of the green when it appears on the screen.
Let’s Golf 2 is about as good a golf game as you could hope to find on any system. It doesn’t have the technical detail or breadth of options as, say, EA’s PGA Tour series, but its straightforward approach and cartoony visuals will enchant golfers and non-golfers alike.
The game’s reward system is its real strength. Starting with just two characters, one golf course and a set of golf clubs, it’s up to the player to earn medals by winning tournaments. Success at a variety of competitions (including first nine holes, last nine holes, random holes, stroke and match play) is rewarded with new items (such as players, clothing, hairstyles, golf clubs, balls and the like) and the gradual unlocking of the game’s six courses in exotic locations like Greece, Kenya and the Antarctic. There’s plenty to play for, then, but how’s your swing?
Fortunately, it doesn’t matter too much, thanks to intuitive controls and a forgiving level of difficulty. But there’s still plenty of competition to be had as the courses and challenges get gradually more demanding.
Best of all, if you fancy playing a real opponent you can try out a multiplayer game over Bluetooth, via Wi-Fi network or on the internet (although at the time of going to press we were unable to access the online rooms).
Let’s Golf 2 is a game so slickly designed it wouldn’t look out of place on a console. That you can play it on a handheld and it only costs ,£2.99 seems something of a gift.

The iOS equivalent of a plain cheese sandwich: does the job, but it won't linger in the memory afterwards.

The interface feels a bit out of place on iOS, but it’s a fun app, and produces interesting results.
Puzzlejuice
Absurdly challenging, sometimes brutal, but frequently brilliant (especially on the iPad); just be aware of what you’re letting yourself in for. (Sob.)
