After its frantic last few games, Llamasoft presents us with a supposedly relaxing one. All you need do is deflect a light ball into targets, using simple two-button controls, we’re told. Chill out to the groovy colours and gentle music!
Sure, we’ll do that once we stop putting down the wrong mirror, losing our multiplier and watching in agony as a neon pixelated camel gleefully runs for cover and our ball dies, alone. So, no, not always terribly relaxing and groovy.
The audio is at times disconcerting, with a childlike voice whispering ‘yay’ in a dejected, dispassionate manner whenever you score points. But brilliant? Pretty much.
As with Llamasoft’s other games, there’s something here that draws you in and doesn’t let go. Deflex deserves to be played by many, many people.
