At first, you could be forgiven for mistaking this as merely a simplistic, animated interactive storybook, written and illustrated by the award-winning Tim Hopgood. But happily, there are some really fun touches that more than make up for the lack of story here.

As well as the ability to make the book read itself to your child (with the words lighting up as they’re spoken, associating the sounds with words), you can also record your own voice onto each page, so your child can hear you read it any time they like. Or – in what turned out to be a lot more fun – you can get your child to narrate their own description of what’s happening on the page. Giggles are guaranteed when they hear their story played back.

But our four-year old audience found the story creator itself the most interesting part of the app. Here you can take scenes, characters and objects from the book and use them to create your own story. Again, on each page you can also record your own voice to describe what’s going on. The object-led design process brought back memories of playing with Fuzzy Felt, but in this virtual version you can change the size of your objects, save your creations and can bask in the fact you’re unable to lose any of the pieces. It’s safe to say that fun was had by all!
