It's well designed, but needs to expand the content and features if it's going to compete with others out there.
Alongside all the iOS 5 goodies last year, Apple announced a new app of their own: Movie Trailers. Despite offering showtimes, photos and a calendar of releases, and the saving of preferred cinemas via iCloud, it’s US-only right now.
Showreel offers a curated selection of ‘the latest & greatest movies every week’, shows them in iPad-friendly high definition and allows you to stream trailers using AirPlay to your Apple TV too.
It’s incredibly well designed, and clearly highlights the new additions each week alongside the cast, director and plot outline for each film.
For all the love and attention given to the slick design, however, Showreel needs to extend the content a little, allow you to find out more about the films and where you can see them. We’d also love to see some social tools, such as the ability to share trailers on Twitter, Facebook and the like.
