This songbook app from Musicroom ticks all the right boxes for the established pianist sick of lugging their scores around. It includes 14 classic popular tunes, ranging from Simon & Garfunkel’s Bridge Over Troubled Water to The Kinks’ Waterloo Sunset, via Sonny & Cher’s I Got You Babe (you can view the full list in the App Store). There’s no option to make further In-App Purchases, which seems like an opportunity missed, but 14 full-length scores for just £2.99 is very good value anyway!
This is not an app for beginners; most pieces are aimed at those in the upper grades. The scores are the perfect size for reading from the piano stool, and you can pinch to zoom in on a certain area if you want to look carefully at, say, a chord. A simple finger swipe turns the page, and there’s no lag between page loads (as with some score library apps), which is brilliant. Eight of the scores feature audio playback to play along to, but this is more of a gimmick than a handy tool.
Overall, this is one of the best music score library apps we’ve seen. Bravo, Musicroom!
