There’s a lot to like about Boxee for iPad, and videos stream over Wi-Fi quite happily. It’s also been superbly designed.

Boxee for iPad is a smartly designed app that makes it easy to stream non-iOS native video files from your Mac and PC, and lets you play videos from the web. A lot of video downloaded from the internet doesn’t work on iOS (unless you’ve got AVPlayer), so having a simple way to play it, like this app offers, is great.
There’s a downloadable Media Manager for Boxee on Mac and PC, which indexes your files and streams them to your iPad – you can swipe through your computer’s folders, though naturally you’ll need your computer to be on to view its content. This works seamlessly and, since the apps are free, it’s definitely worth experimenting with (you’ll need to create a Boxee account). Boxee has also previously released the Boxee Box, a set-top media box for your HDTV. If you have one, you’re able to beam content directly from your iPad to your TV though the box. This didn’t work so well for us in practice, and was rather sluggish.
But there are better things about this app; link up your Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr accounts and the app will automatically pull videos your friends share to your iPad for viewing in a single place – clever. You can also save videos for viewing later.
