Seesmic Review

by on December 17, 2010

Twitter’s a great tool, but it certainly doesn’t exist in isolation. If you’ve got something interesting to say that can fit into 140 characters, you may well want to say it elsewhere, or on more than one Twitter account.

Seesmic is designed to enable you to post messages to various services using its Ping.fm integration all from one Twitter-based interface, though can just stick with using it as a Twitter client if you like.

In fact, as a lone Twitter client it gives a pretty good account of itself. It’s crisp, easy to read and loads messages and avatars quickly. It offers you a vast range of options from the Menu key when viewing your timeline

If you go into a particular tweet, you’ll get more options based on the content. If there’s an @name in it, you can tweet that person or see their timeline easily, and links can be opened or copied (we’d really like to see a ‘share’ option here though, for quickly emailing it to someone).

It’s also got all the expected options, such as URL shortening, geotagging and adding a picture. The BlackBerry’s light will flash if you’ve got new @ mentions, so you’ll know quickly when people are talking about/to you.

As a Twitter client, it’s very good, so with the Ping.fm option thrown in as well, we highly recommend it.

Absurdly challenging, sometimes brutal, but frequently brilliant (especially on the iPad); just be aware of what you’re letting yourself in for. (Sob.)
