Putting all your IMs in one basket
by on September 23, 2010
Instant messaging on the BlackBerry is hardly a new phenomenon, but there are so many different clients out there it can be hard to keep a track on all your accounts.
That’s where Nimbuzz jumps in – all the IM clients together in one place, plus all your phone contacts too so you can see who else is online.
There’s support for AIM, Yahoo, Google, Orkut, Facebook, Skype, Windows Live Messenger… even GaduGadu and Hyves are on board.
For most it’s as easy as popping in your sign in details and the contacts bounce into the menu with a helpful little icon telling you which client they’re from.
However, Facebook simply wouldn’t work on the BlackBerry for us – and anecdotal evidence from other users seems to suggest that not all Facebook contacts are shown as online when they are.
It would also be nice to see some SkypeOut functionality here, like the Nokia version gets, but it seems the BlackBerry app is a little stripped down.
