We’re not sure if we can call foursquare a phenomenon or not, simply because we’re not particularly sure what the point of it is.
But then again, we questioned Twitter in the same way, so if this new way of ‘social networking’ in real life’ is any good, then this app is great for it.
You ‘check in’ to places by simply marking them when nearby through the application, which is why this is a such a mobile-centric idea. You then see where your friends are checking in and attempt to garner points by ‘checking in’ regularly.
It seems a little surreal, but the cooler aspect is picking up tips on nearby places from others that have checked in and left comments.
The interface is simple to use and the application runs smoothly, with all the necessary options available at your fingertips.
The only reason we haven’t given it five stars is that not a lot of people are using it at the moment – if it becomes a hit in the same way as Twitter and Facebook, then this is almost the perfect app, especially when it gets upgrades to include things like vendor phone numbers.
