Star Trek: Countdown Book Review
by on August 14, 2010
Making a comic book application for the BlackBerry must be hard, and especially one for the Trekkies out there.
For many business-people, Star Trek was a staple for them growing up, and while many won’t admit it, a smattering of Klingon still exists in their vernacular.
So the prequel to the recent reboot of the Kirk-fuelled franchise, in comic book form, is always going to appeal, and that’s exactly what’s on offer here.
Given the small screen sizes, the story is presented frame by frame – not standard fare for comics, but it actually works rather well on the smaller display, with vivid colours and clear detail.
You can download a segment of the comic for free, but this is only for a few frames – you need to pay £4 for the full thing.
It’s a little expensive, but you do get a well-structured story out of it, and for Star Trek fans there won’t be a moment’s hesitation.
The app also offers ‘news’ about the story – but this is very rarely updated and quite sparse, so you’ll probably stick with the story.
The comic downloads to SD card, so you have to have one of those on board and you can choose to suck it down from the cloud all at once or just as you read – Wi-Fi is the chosen medium if you go for the former.
We’re not sure if this application will have any effect on your health – but we’d imagine it might offer you the chance to live long and prosper.
