Photo Distortions Review
by on July 16, 2012
Yes, it’s yet more quick photo hijinks. This time, we don’t have the usual selection of analogue filters, but rather a bunch of effects you can apply. After you install the Photo Distortions app, you can access it from the Menu key at any time, so when you’re browsing in the gallery you can send a photo straight to it.
After a bit of processing, it opens a menu of thumbnails, representing the different distortions. Each shows a bit of a preview of them applied to the image, though in many cases it’s difficult to see what’s actually been done. You scroll between them with the trackpad, and you can see what each one actually is at the bottom of the screen. Select one and you’re often given something to adjust, such as the degree of the effect, and then you can see it applied.
The distortions are things like Jitter, Fish-eye, Mirror, Flip, Tile, Pixelate, Border and Emboss, and they’re all a bit basic, really. Some of them can take a while to apply, but the app is fairly snappy overall. Once you’ve applied the effect, you can share the photo on an impressive number of sites straight from the app, including TwitPic, Imgur, Tumblr, ImageShack and email. Facebook isn’t directly included, though.
Photo Distortions is free, and so its slightly boring nature can be forgiven a bit, but we can’t help but feel it’s not something you’ll open more than once or twice when better image tweaking apps are out there.
