Poynt Review

With Yell trying to jazz itself up for the modern world with its frankly embarrassing JR Hartley ad re-boot (Day V Lately! Really?) it seems that there is definite money in apps offering local search through your smartphone.
One of Yell’s big competitors and a recently new addition to Android is Poynt. This app beds itself into the local world around you and constantly screams at you to get off your butt and get doing stuff.
Load that app up and it takes a minute or so for the app to get itself ready. Essentially it is the Jason Bourne of the app world, figuring out where the hell it it is before it unleashes its deadly powers.
Not that Poynt will point out anything deadly for you to try out in your area – unless you do go to that really dodgy curry house it keeps recommending.
Poynt is broken down into four sections: movies, restaurants, events and businesses. Click any of these and you will be asked if you want to find restaurants nearby or type in what kind of food you want and it will do its best to find something for you.
When you choose what you want, it will search using Thompson Local Bing and a host of other sites.
The app will tell you the distance to your place of choice and it will also offer up information such as a phone number directions and where it is on the map.
Poynt is blisteringly quick and easy to use and it has some great little extras, like in the movie section it will give you the score of the movie on Rotten Tomatoes and the events section is a great way to keep up to date with what’s on in your area.
No wonder Yell is heavily advertising with innovative start-ups like Poynt on the scene.
