Augmented reality app on steroids
The world of augmented reality is a weird one which is not unlike a very bad mushroom trip. Point your phone at anything when you have an augmented reality app open and you never know what will pop out at you.
With Wikitude – awful name, decent app – the things that will mostly jump out at you are Wikipedia pages referring to whatever famous building you are staring at, or what street you are in.
With a UI that looks similar to Microsoft Bing (which also houses a treasure trove of interesting pop up facts) Wikitude is ideal for those who walk around oblivious to their surroundings.
It’s not only Wikipedia information that can and will pop up. You can also look for tweets in your area, as well as the nearest restaurants, and bank machines.
Yes the whole thing is similar to Layar but the addition of shopping coupons that appear when you are in a shopping centre spices things up.
There’s a decent search service on the app and you can even create your own places in the crazy world of augmented reality.
For those bored of Google’s straight-laced browser, Wikitude could well be for you. That is if you can forgive the name.
