An app dedicated to reading books, not Reading the place
Good Reads Review
by on May 3, 2011
While some may baulk at the idea of a social network for book lovers, Good Reads has made a decent job of taking the idea of an old-fashioned book club and pimping it out for the digital world. Although you can use the app to see what books have been recently read by those signed up to Good Reads, the app gets infinitely better when you register with the network and start supplying your own book information.
All this can be done through the app itself and can be viewed through the My Profile and My Books sections of the app.
One of the most useful parts of the app is the Search functionality. Here you can type in an author or book name and instantly user-generated reviews will appear.
As this is a social network, the reviews are usually much better than you would find on Amazon and the like – mainly because the majority of those who sign up to a social network based around the idea of reading are literate.
Through the reviews you can also compare prices of the books you search and buy through the app.
Simple but brilliantly effective, Good Reads is a decent way to find new books. Just make sure you have friends on the network to join in with the fun.
