Amazon App Review
by on January 27, 2011
It’s taken quite a while for an official Amazon Android app to appear, so much that now it is here it already feels a tad redundant.
It’s not that we don’t welcome an app that makes it easier to buy stuff from one of the world’s biggest e-tailers, but there’s a whole load of contenders on the Android Market at the moment which do similar things.
Anyone familiar with the Amazon website will be right at home with the Amazon app. All it takes is a quick sign-in to get all the recommendations you usually get from the site and also access to your wishlist and so forth.
Now, we usually don’t like this eerie recommendation nonsense on websites. It is akin to a workmate peering through your bedroom window at night and telling you the next day that they’ve analysed what goes on in your boudoir and think that you ‘would like these pants… and this whip… and this gimp mask’.
But, in the case of the Amazon app, the recommendations allow you to search the app for loads of goodies you might like and mean you don’t have to use the rather rubbish search bar.
Once you have found what you want then it is a simple click-to-buy process and you will receive an email in much the same way as you use the site.
There is a hint of ‘seen it all before’ with this app. One great function the Amazon app has is that it can read barcodes. But then so can Google Goggles and Barcode scanner, and these also give you options to buy your products from a multitude of websites.
If only Amazon had come out earlier with this app, then we would be singing its praises a lot more.
