A great news app with some of the best multimedia functionality around.
CNN is one of the most respected news gatherers around, so when it announced it was doing an Android app it’s fair to say that most were expecting big things from the service.
It’s lucky then that the app offers a comprehensive account of what is going on in the world day to day, alongside decent photography and a nice dollop of proper journalism.
The way the app is laid out makes it a cinch to use. Most of the categories are situated at the top of the app, from here you can choose which parts of the news you want to read about. With most of the stories you read, there is usually a CNN video associated with it.
This multimedia functionality is spread out to a live vidcast of what is going on at CNN in any given time and there’s also a radio player as well.
One of the only problems we encountered with the app was the ticker-tape breaking news functionality. When you see a headline pop up, you assume you can click on it to see the rest of the article but it just redirects to the ‘top new’ landing page.
This is only a slight niggle, though, in what is a very handy app.
