Bringing the power of PlayStation to your Android phone
No, this isn’t the much rumoured, long gesticulated PlayStation Phone, merely a way to check up on all your PS3 shenanigans while on the move.
Today’s gamers are very much a different breed to the PC-playing fanatics of yore; they’re not so much glued to one console or machine but taking their gaming wares on the go with them, playing distilled games on mobile phones, iPods and PSPs.
This app keeps you up to date with what is happening with everything PlayStation. It’s a very versatile application and one that looks the business. Animated icons guide you through the menu options. You can look up news on your favourite PlayStation console – PS3, PSP, even PS2 – and you can also see what your friends are doing on the PSN.
There’s also information on every game you can buy for your PlayStation. This is where the app gets interesting – each game has a synopsis and even a video trailer. It’s a neat idea and one that is executed brilliantly.
You can also get information on the non-gaming aspects of the PS3, such as 4oD and the like. We would have liked to have been able to see live updates of what shows were available from the on-demand services on offer. It wasn’t there, but we are hoping that this functionality is integrated into the app at some point.
Slick enough to keep you coming back for more, the PlayStation Official app is a definite must for those who bow to the sword of Sony.
