Kindle rival offers up decent customisable reading experience
When it comes to books, not everybody is interested in swapping paper for pixels but those who are want a decent reading experience.
Aldiko offers a similar service to the Kindle app but it has the bonus of not being tied to any e-reader store.
Load the app up and what you are presented with a lovely (but empty) bookcase. Click into this and you will be given a list of free books that are publicly available for you to download. If you choose which book you want to download, then you are given an image and description of the story.
If you want to input your own ebooks, then this is also easy to do. You can also click into the store and buy as many premium books as you want. All of these are stored on your SD card.
Each book has customisable text and you can add bookmarks and increase the size of the text just by double clicking on the screen.
The only real bugbear (other than it seems to run constantly in the background) is that you have to pay £1.83 for the app. We’re not stingy but you can get other (not as slick) apps that do a very similar thing for absolutely nothing.
Lucky that there is a free version but you don’t get all the features that you do when you upgrade to premium.
