Your portal to thousands of music videos on your phone
by on May 22, 2011
It used to be that to get your latest music video fix you would watch MTV and its spin-offs. With MTV now littered with execrable shows like Jersey Shore and My Super Sweet 16, it is the likes of YouTube and Vevo that now house the latest music videos.
The latter, Vevo, isn’t that well known in the UK but it is doing big business in the US. Developed by Sony Music Entertainment, Universal Music Group and EMI the service has now made its way to Android and it is a decent way to keep up with the latest in pop music.
The layout of the app is simple: images of the big music video premieres take up most of the space, with options like Videos, Artists and Playlists at the bottom of the app. Drill into these categories and you can search through the myriad videos on show.
While we weren’t exactly enamoured by the exclusive content (The Saturdays and Swedish House Mafia are strictly for the teens), the layout of the app is great and the quality of the videos is decent – there is a high quality option for most of them. Each video comes with some information, the option to share and occasionally to buy.
We did have to force close the app a number of times, so do watch out for glitches but the sheer amount of content you get for free is impressive.
