Qikipedia, for those who don’t have time to check Wikipedia
by on May 18, 2010
Where would the world be without Wikipedia? Porn for procrastinators, the site is the one-stop shop for those who want to know that little bit more about a subject but can’t be bothered to do actual research.
Quickpedia is an Android app which makes browsing the site on your phone that little bit easier.
Simply set out, you have just five tabs to choose from: Search, Featured, Popular, News and Nearby.
This makes the app a joy to use – though we will say that the Popular tab is a little redundant as it only marks the most popular articles of all time and isn’t reactive.
Each article is primed for the phone and you can toggle toggle font sizes to your liking. The News section works well, pulling out recent news content and linking within the articles to older content.
The revelation here though it the Nearby section. Rock up to a place you don’t really know and using your phone’s GPS, the app will get content for you about the area.
It’s simple but brilliantly effective.
While it may not have that many more features than Wikipedia’s own Mobile version of its site, Quickpedia has just enough to keep you coming back for more.
