GT Racing: Motor Academy Free+ Review

The first thing you will notice about GT Racing is the pain you have to go through getting the thing downloaded to your phone. Yes, it may take second to download the initial game but an extra 300-odd megabytes of content is needed for it to work and this takes a long time – and you need to make sure you are plugged into Wi-Fi or there goes your data allowance.
Once this is done through, it’s impressive just how good this racing game looks. While kit is not in the same league as Gran Turismo, for a game that’s primarily for playing on your smartphone, the graphics are so good you almost forgive the massive download times. Almost.
The name of the game though is a touch misleading. The free of the title refers to the what you can do at the beginning of the game. You do get a number of things free, like the initial setup of so-so cars and then you have to start paying for extras. This is the freemium way but it did iritate us after a while, as did the game’s controls. While it does its best to emulate Gran Turismo – it’s not called GT for nothing – it just doesn’t have the nuances you need for it to be a truly decent racing sim. For those who just like to put the pedal to the medal though, this game could well be for you.
