More of a listener than a reader? Audible for Android provides access to digital audiobooks for your aural pleasure.
If you’re not a fan of eBooks, the Audible digital audiobook store will let you listen to a book instead.
While it is a subscription based service, Audible provides a sample of seven audiobooks to help you decide if the app is for you.
File sizes are generally big, so your best option would be to download over Wi-Fi. Once you’ve made your purchase, you can select it from the menu to begin listening.
If you have to stop listening, you can leave a bookmark to continue at the same point when you next launch the book. A Sleep function means you drift off to a book, while the Button-free mode transforms the interface letting you swipe to rewind, forward, pause, and create a bookmark.
To encourage your listening, you can earn virtual incentives like badges, see a listening level meter, and share books on Facebook and Twitter.
In spite of all its many features, the audio was not of the crispest quality, while having to purchase content in a separate web browser was something of an annoyance. Nonetheless, the incentives are a novel idea and it’s ideal if you prefer not to read at great length on your smartphone.
