Can this keyboard app out-swipe Swype?
by on December 4, 2011
The keyboard has never been the strong point of an Android device – virtual keys are clunky at the best of times and there’s not many smartphone manufacturers that have figured out to do this. Samsung knows this and that is why it bundles the insanely popular Swype with its phones and tablets.
For those that want a little bit of choice, though, SlideIT is a decent replacement for Swype. It works in a similar way, allowing your to swipe, sorry, slide your finger across the letters to make the words.
An app likes this lives and dies by its accuracy and we found SlideIT to be decent enough. There weren’t to many times we had to change words to stop from being embarrassed with the app’s predictive text.
We did find that SlideIT could do with a bit of a sprucing up. The keyboard didn’t look that great on our phone, it’s pretty plain and there’s nothing there to denote it from another keyboard. We’re not saying that bells and whistles need to be added but some sort of makeover could make it a lot more desirable – especially in landscape mode.
But, for one-handed texting which is the sole job of this app, SlideIT does the job and does it better than most other apps out there on the market.
