Bringing instant messaging to your phone, Palringo.
by on March 13, 2010
Palringo likes to treat everybody the same. Regardless of the fact that you are on ICQ, Facebook Chat or Hotmail, Palringo cuts between the corporate nonsense and allows you to message any of your contacts for free on your phone, through their instant messaging service.
Strangely, Palringo isn’t just the name of the application but an IM service in its own right. So to use the app you have to sign up to Palringo.
This is a little annoying but all it takes is an email address. Once this is done, you can see which of your contacts are currently using an IM service and you can write to them through that, without the need to spend money on loads of text messages.
The reason things are ‘free’ is that Palringo does all its business over the mobile web. So, it will contact people through your phone’s 3G or Wi-Fi.
Palringo only works well when a lot of your contacts are contactable through their instant messengers. If your mates just talk over, well, the phone, give it a miss.
